Sustainability is important and the township should not be putting ordinances in place that limit the ability of its constituents to be self sufficient and often more financially independent. Many major cities such as Austin, Texas and SanFrancisco, California allow for backyard chickens, but West Lampeter does not. How can we have a community Fair that centers around agriculture without allowing our community the ability to participate in activities such as having egg laying hens. Of course constituents would still be beholden to any HOA or other agreement they may have signed, but outside of that there should be nothing preventing someone with a quarter acre and a chicken coop from having a few egg laying chickens on their property.
Egg laying chickens (not roosters) would have no impact on neighboring properties as long as they had a fenced in area with an enclosure.
