Why Are Stormwater Permits Required?
The Chesapeake Bay Watershed, including the southern PA region, has been declining in water quality for decades. Stormwater runoff pollutants - including sediment, phosphorous, and nitrogen - have contributed to toxic algae blooms, silted waters, decrease fish and plant species, and lower overall water quality. The township uses the stormwater permitting process to ensure less pollution is entering our waterways from new building projects.
